Regional Symposia
Regional Symposia Purpose: Regional Symposia are planned, researched and organized by the local chapters or groups of registered art therapists requesting advanced level training working in conjunction with AATA. While the symposia expand professional visibility they also serve to increase reserve funds of the local chapters.
Regional Symposia Objectives: The symposia are offered in the six AATA designated regions of the United States. It objectives are:
- To offer advanced specialized training
- To reach the AATA members who cannot attend the annual conference
- To create interaction within the mental health community by expanding awareness and visibility of art therapy on local and national levels.
- To promote and address specialized applications of art therapy with specific client populations.
- To provide CEC's for professional licensure maintenance.
Regional Symposia Goals:
- To increase awareness of the value and importance of art therapy.
- To augment professional training through advanced education.
- To increase professional opportunities for art therapists.
- To increase communication between art therapists and related disciplines.
Regional Symposia News:
The Florida Art Therapy Association (FATA) was the first chapter to hold a Regional Symposium under the newly revamped system. Symposium attendees included art therapy students, veteran art therapists, and even healthcare administrators interested in adding art therapy to their program offerings. Participants' evaluations of the program indicated that the symposium provided practical information attendees could incorporate into their professional practice and was very well received.
AATA's Regional Symposia can help your chapter achieve similar results. Regional Symposia provide pre-approved programs led by qualified speakers on a wide range of topics.
