Student Scholarship to the AATA Conference

Registration costs for the AATA Annual Conference, in the form of awarded scholarships, shall be provided to a total of three (3) AATA student members each year. These students shall be selected from three (3) different AATA-approved graduate programs. The Scholarships Committee shall be responsible for the selection process.
Scholarships are awarded to applicants who show evidence of a commitment to the art therapy profession, leadership abilities, potential for future involvement in AATA, and demonstrated financial need.
AATA student members applying for the scholarship must submit the following materials to the Scholarships Committee
- A formal letter of request, which includes a description of any special circumstances that might support or augment the student's application;
- A letter of recommendation from a professor from whom the applicant has taken at least one course in his or her current graduate art therapy program;
- A letter of recommendation from a professional member of AATA;
- A demonstration of financial need as evidenced by completion of the Scholarships Committee financial information form. This form is available from the AATA National Office upon request;
- Evidence of current student status (copy of current AATA membership card);
- A 2-3 page essay describing why the student feels he or she should be awarded the scholarship. This essay should include
- How attending the Conference relates to the student's future as an active AATA member
- Specific ways in which the student will share experience and acquired knowledge from the Conference with others in the student's graduate program
- Written acknowledgement and agreement that if selected for the scholarship, the student shall
- Write a summary of his or her experiences at the conference of no less than 500 words, and submit it to the AATA Newsletter no later than 60 days after the end of the Conference for possible publication
- Assist for a minimum of two (2) hours at the Dancing for Dollars table at the Conference
Any needed application materials should be requested from the AATA National Office, and submitted to the Scholarships Committee with a postmark no later than July 15th of the year that the student wishes to attend the Conference. Late applications will not be accepted.
